More than most, Alexander Olch's career has been influenced by his education. His experience of the Collegiate School dress code (which I also endured) inspired him to make high-end neckties with Alexander Olch New York, and his Harvard study with documentarian Richard P. Rogers led to the film at hand. After Rogers's death in 2001, Olch sifted through over 200 hours of footage Rogers had prepared for a film autobiography. To complete the film, Olch wrote a narration in Rogers's voice and interviewed his friends (Collegiate and Harvard alum Wallace Shawn) and family (Rogers's wife, acclaimed photographer Susan Meiselas) about the guilt Rogers felt over his Long Island childhood and Harvard education. The result is an examination of the privilege into which Olch, Shawn, and Rogers were born: Gossip Girl on the analyst's couch.
