New Party Alert: GALAXIE at Glasslands Gallery

Joining a long history of coast-to-coast exchanges (to wit: hip hop, Space Ghost), Angeleno Alison Childs, whose Donuts! parties have hosted the likes of Gravy Train!!! and Lightning Bolt, makes her New York debut this Sunday with "space disco dance party" GALAXIE at Brooklyn's Glasslands Gallery. GALAXIE, like Donuts!, seeks to augment the typical concert experience with careful attention to visual stimuli: each GALAXIE party (future locations TBD) will feature a video installation by Childs along with music by resident DJs Andrew "Lovefingers" Hogge, Justin Miller (DFA), and 2007 Beautiful Person Jacques "not this guy" Renault. Sunday's performance by Soft Circle, aka Brooklyn-based artist and musician Hisham Bharoocha, who played in early incarnations of Lightning Bolt and Black Dice while studying photography at RISD, keeps with the multimedia spirit. And, lest your taste buds get jealous of your eyes and ears, there will be free vegan space cakes.
