

1. Tommy Boy Records' founder Tom Silverman is reviving his New Music Seminar in a collab with New York University. Originally launched in NYC in 1980 -- just as Billboard Magazine's Disco Convention was fading and DIY rock was on the rise -- the seminar was soon showcasing up-and-coming acts like Madonna and Run-D.M.C. at the Paradise Garage (1984). NMS 2009 will be a one-day affair held at the Steinhardt Skirball Center on July 21 with $99 advance tickets available here.
2. Stop by the Chanel store (139 Spring Street) before April 29 and check out the "prizes" for the winners of each film category in the Tribeca Film Festival. In addition to cash, winners receive a painting or print created by 10 NY artists including Stephen Hannock, Robert Mangold and David Salle.
