Hooray! Out this week is the DVD box set of http://www.paramount.com/paramount.php">South Park Season 12. I love the reluctant audio commentary by creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone on this 12th season of the still wildly subversive animated series about the foul-mouthed tots of a small town in Colorado. In this season, one episode aired immediately after the election (and was not done in two different version as assumed), and Obama and McCain turn out to be in cahoots in an Ocean’s 12-like heist in the hilarious About Last Night. Trey and Matt skewer High School Musical, the Twilight phenomenon and go after the excess of pan flute bands popping up in malls and on street corners in a genius two-parter Pandemic (which throws in a slam at Cloverfield for fun). Kenny becomes addicted to a new drug that puts him into a Heavy Metal-like alternate universe. Cartman gets accidentally infected with the AIDs virus. Ms. Garrison gets a new penis (grafted onto a lab rat that gets loose). There's a school trip to a theme park where the attendants refuse to break character and a hostage situation ensues. And Britney Spears shows up in South Park. The transgressive humor is still raging in this brilliant, hilarious series.
