Christain Lacroix showed in a sun-drenched garage, replete with crumbling cement walls and flooring, but the collection itself was nothing if not superbly crafted. Lacroix knows how to do Lacroix; the collection was feminine, elegant and expertly designed. It wasn't as heavily embellished as usual, nor were there as many graphic prints. The dresses in heavier fabrics had a rigid-yet-soft quality -- rigid because of the tailored construction, and soft because of the feminine silhouette and rich fabrics. But I was loving his use of lace, which added elegant sex appeal by its suggestive placement. For instance, sometimes the entire back of a dress was lace, but not the front. Or, the lace would begin on the side of the torso, from the middle of the underarm down to the waist, and wrap around to the back, with the result being the exposure of the entire back and a bit of side cleavage. It was sexy, yet very, very tasteful.
