Alice + Olivia Gets Moody
By Meagan Brant
Alice + Olivia's customary charming style is all grown up as of yesterday's Fall 09 presentation. What once used to be schoolgirl appropriate attire is now a little angrier and rougher. Distressed fabrics create a worn in look as chains, zippers and studs are erratically placed throughout a predominantly black collection. However, designer Stacey Bendet still manages to balance out the mature distraught with the cutesy: sultry cocktail dresses trimmed with coiffed ruffles, shredded strips of Day-Glo punching through the edges of black T-shirts and blazers, and shine -- lots of sequined and beaded shine. Although this season's collection was not typical Alice + Olivia, it's easy to envision their trend-hungry clientele embracing the moodier side of fashion.
