A Quick Chit-Chat With Brian Reyes

Brian Reyes, who worked at Oscar de la Renta, Ralph Lauren and Michael Kors before venturing on his own three years ago, showed a feminine collection yesterday that celebrated youthful chic and smart socialite style. Fitting, then, that gals like Ivanka Trump, Rachel Bilson and Olivia Palmero were sitting front row. The look was fairly glam (models wore French Twists or chignons and donned spectacular necklaces and '60s drop earrings à la Edie Sedgewick), but the energy was still fun. The models, after struggling with pin-thin Manolos for most of the show, actually paraded their final "run of show" lap sans heels -- cheeky!

Backstage, the young designer was swarmed with well-wishers and several Spanish-language film crews (Brian's parents are Colombia natives and he spent some of his childhood there). After congratulating him on a beautiful show, we just had to ask:

Do you have any pre-show rituals?
We don't have one -- I think we just high-five each other afterwards! That's always been our ritual, maybe we need to come up with a new one...

What did you tell your models before they went out?
We wanted to have fun. The idea of the show is that it's always a pulled together girl, but really not. Like, we wanted her to be glamorous, but you know what? She's not perfect. And I wanted this to be like that.

I love Brian Reyes. His clothes reflect substance, not frivolity but still hold they whimsy of being a woman. Bravo!
