Word of Mouth

Last night in London, we hit up the Design Museum for the opening of "Hussein Chalayan – From Fashion and Back." Unlike most fashion exhibitions, which tend to display the clothes on mannequins in a careful and delicate manner, this show felt like alive, perpetually in motion, and had a jolie-laide quality to it -- the mannequins were a bit ugly (but happy) and short! Furthermore, there was air literally blowing throughout the show, to add wispiness to a mannequin's hair or to make a dress flow a certain way. It's brilliantly curated, and from the choices of garments to the actual set design, it captured the essence and impact of Chalayan's work. Yes there was champagne and yes there were celebs -- Christian Slater and our beloved Roisin Murphy (who rocked wares by the designer) came through -- but it was one of those nights where the exhibition truly stole the show.
