Scenes from Last Weekend's Art of Walk
This past Saturday, a group of animal-mask-clad artists -- David and Jessica of FOOX, Julie Kaye, Peter Chang, Dan Barojas, Babychicken, DASCO and Stephen Snow -- took part in a walking exhibition around New York City, The Art of Walk. The crew carried their pieces with them from Union Square to SoHo, with stops along the way in galleries like Jonathan LeVine and Deitch. Here are some pics from the roving art show.

i saw these guys walking into art galleries with their art on stands, masks on and gallery owners immediately being drawn in as we all were, appreciating the art as well as the method in which we came to see it. the idea of walking the art around for people to see in nyc and then right into galleries themselves is killer. the reactions were great, everyone loved the art and the masks were just plain dope, as masks always are... kung foox like what -

Fabulous Foox! The Fooxes are a dynamic duo with an entourage of innovative and exciting artists who love to delve into the unconventional when it comes to getting their work out there. And why not!? The commercial gallery scene and art world "proper" can at times be elitist and obtuse. A "walking art show is a brilliant way to share art with the masses. Kudos to them also for having the kahoneh's to get in the face of some of the big name galleries. Nicely done, oh soldiers of snob-free creativity!

This is fantastic. I love the concept of creating a marketing coup on the bigger "art world" and getting equal coverage all the while presenting art to the masses which is really what it is all about!
Kudos to the "animal faces"!

Foox Immitates Art

The art is painted and framed and mounted as signage, but what about the performance; this is art too.
art within art and for the purposes of publicity = opportunity to exploit the frame of reference for each artists' works.
keep marching!

Please join us at 11am in Union Square on November 29th to begin our Walking Exhibition. We will crisscross Manhattan and Williamsburg visiting NYC's flashest galleries.

Walking for Art's Sake:
Faux Protest = Real Results & Awesome Art
ART OF WALK NYC focused less on the artist (hence the all black attire and face masks) while pushing art to the forefront by mounting it on wooden sticks & bringing art to the people. Breaking down the white walls and exclusivity of the art world while building up tomorrow's next big art stars.

Showing one's art in a gallery takes guts - especially the opening night. how will they receive my work? but taking it to the streets is a whole new level. at least you had a group of you facing this challenge and adventure together and not alone.
kudos to you lot.

I heard about the Foox Art of War yesterday and was sad I missed it. I met Foox in Art Basel last year and would have enjoyed meeting all of the artists involved.
Great coverage f the event and if you are making your way through the midwest with the art tour, I would love to be a part of it.

I just met David & Jessica Foox here in SF last night. They told me about the Art of Walk and their love for Paper Mags. I have been doing my googling and have to comment that this is the best idea EVER. I really love that they wore animal masks and that this is the basis for the upcomging Beautiful People event; Creatures of God.
I am envious that they are living on the East Coast in New York and not on the west coast here in SF.
Great article.
