Last night was a roller-coaster ride of an evening. It started out ominously when I was dismissed with a "you are not on the list" by some of the rudest and snottiest clipboard girls I have ever encountered. I was asked first to wait in the rain and then by security to leave the area. Oh well -- that was the down. Moving on up, the Guggenheim was the setting for the Hugo Boss Prize 2008 gala, an established forum for recognizing achievement in contemporary art. Fresh from her recent PAPER cover, the exquisite Julianne Moore dodged the raindrops on and off the red carpet with husband Bart Freundlich. All of a sudden there was a secretive rumbling and scrambling, when Gloria von Thurn und Taxis, the madcap icon of the '80s was seen posing spread-eagle-style up against the signage on the carpet. Everyone was given a little "Hugo Boss Prize 2008" button to wear upon entering the party, but the always inventive Kai Kuhne took the opportunity to appropriate it as an earring. The sound system at the Guggenheim... well... let's say it really really works. But it was a great party, way up there on the roller-coaster track.
