Scenes from the Jack Pierson Book Signing
By Johnny Misheff
On Thursday night, amidst electric winds and eventual rain dumping, a very chic and eccentric crowd stuffed into John Derian's store on 2nd Street to ogle over Jack Pierson's latest book, which is a collection of eight out-of-print publications that are rare and gorgeous and totally Pierson. Among the books included are Angel Youth, Caught in the Rain and Sing a song of sixpence [intentionally lowercase, just so you know]. So it's a real gem, 436 pages stuffed with images and text by the likes of Enrique Juncosa and the always fun to read Wayne Koestenbaum. Mr. Pierson was on hand to sign copies, so me and my crew (which consisted of Timothy Hull and Paul Sepuya) all lined up.
Right next door, Rivington Arms kept their doors open, and I'm SO glad they did. The Leigh Ledare show that's currently up is one of my favorite shows around right now. It's more of those troublingly troublefree images of his naked mother alongside videos of her romping around in bed with men half her age. It's stroooong work, and I would big-time urge you to check out before it's gone on the 19th of October.
