Filter and ANTICS threw an All Points West warm up party at the Williamsburg Warehouse last Thursday night -- and these guys knew what they were doing. It felt like all of Brooklyn came out. Even with the rain, the line stretched down the block with no intention to budge. But just when all hope seemed lost, the fine people at Meanred Productions appeared and saved us from an eternity in line limbo.
By the time I got inside, Dave 1 of Chromeo was already manning the tables, quickly turning the dance floor into a packed sweat-fest. And sure enough, alongside stood his little brother A-Trak who, as Kanye West's backing DJ, is no stranger to the turntables.
As the night wore on, things started getting a little freaky in the VIP area. A group showed up in full-on Power Ranger villain rubber costumes. Soon enough, everybody started grinding amongst a drunken haze of bodies and rubber claws. Then Kele from Bloc Party showed up to take over on the tables. For a good while, he and the two brothers aligned as an unstoppable DJ force. But I had to ask myself, "Is it a faux pas to play your own band's songs in a DJ set?" Well, who cares -- the crowd didn't seem to mind.
At three in the morning the space creatures and groupie babes cleared out, leaving behind a mess of Colt 45 tall boys. We took this as our cue to leave, marking another successful evening of feel good mayhem.
