Miley Madness
By Caroline Torem Craig
First at the Today Show and then in Central Park, Miley Cyrus and thousands of screaming tweens invaded New York last Friday. Seventy percent of the Miley-philes were little girls, escorted by their loving moms who waited for hours for the controversial pop star to perform. Here were some important observations culled from Great Barrington, Massachusetts’ Alicia; Warwick, Rhode Island’s Emily and Alana; Minneapolis, Minnesota’s Melodie; and Clearwater, Florida’s Ava…
Six Things We Hate About Miley Cyrus:
"She is a total wannabe Britney Spears before the babies."
"Definitely has hidden skank potential!"
"She took naked pictures of herself."
"Her fashion sense comes from Limited Too.
"She had the nerve to break up with Nick Jonas."
"She makes us love her!"
Six Things We Love About Miley Cyrus:
"She's hot!"
"She has awesome hair -- I have modeled every inch of my hair to look like hers!"
"We love that she broke up with Nick Jonas."
"She is pretty normal for a pop star and not totally screwed up yet."
"She saved us from That’s So Raven"
"She makes us love her!"
Across the street from Rock Center and down the block at the Duane Reade, teeter-tottering on a huge ladder, was my favorite uncredentialed paparazzi armed with a huge 500mm lens laughing and documenting this madness.

"We are young."
"We are free"
"We are stupid."
"So what."

I really, really hope Miley Cyrus is encouraged to be as spontaneous, silly, incorrigible, and free-spirited as she wants to be ,living under the microscope of hypocritical "know-it-alls" is just plain unfair and mean-spirited.

I took my 13 yr.old daughter and her girlfriend to the TODAY show and although it was a long drive and even longer wait,it was a wonderful experience, the kids were so excited and giggling from beginning to end.How sad to lose the giddiness of innocence and how hard for adults to preserve that moment for their children, when it is hardly more than a heartbeat in the scheme of time.
Thanks,Paper for being objective and not demeaning in your coverage.
