PAPER
Word of Mouth

There was a period in my life when all I ever wanted to listen to was Roxy Music -- and I did! I was in love with Brian Ferry because he had such cool style and seemed so rebellious and sophisticated. And the first time I saw a picture of Brian Eno, I forgot all about David Bowie.

My fanaticism for this ultimate art-damaged band did wane a bit over the years but it caught fire again recently with the release of "The Thrill of It All," a two-disc DVD set that delivers a decade's worth of Roxy performances from 1972 to 1982. It is a real jewel of a compilation with songs that would be familiar to any Roxy fan, from "For Your Pleasure" to "Avalon." I particularly enjoyed watching the performance of "Psalm" on Musikladen, a German television show, because it's a beautiful song that I never heard before.

thrill of it allWith the coming of YouTube the thrill of hunting down your favorite vintage band's live footage is just not what it used be but I sure do love owning all my favorite Roxy Music videos!

OK, so you know that Brian Ferry had been a notorious ladies man and dated girls like Amanda Lear and Jerry Hall (till Mick Jagger snatched her up!) just to name a few, but here's a lesser known fact about BF:

He studied art at University of Newcastle upon Tyne as did his fellow Brits and our local art luminaries Gavin Brown and Matthew Higgs. There's a little culture bridging for ya!
