Mountaintop Removal Turning West Virginia into Almost Hell

Mountaintop removal is something that West Virginians have been sick about for years. And yet no one can fight the big coal companies that are systematically destroying the beauty of my homestate. When I was back there in August I once again witnessed some of the heartbreaking destruction. They usually leave the mountains along the Interstate highway system intact (keeping the rape a secret from outsiders) while behind those lush hills lays a devastation that I can barely talk about. Yet if we don't talk about it it continues... and continues until Almost Heaven is transformed into Almost Hell. Not even almost. Hell! Or the badlands of South Dakota. HELP!!!!!!! It is estimated that if the practice continues (which it will) 1.4 million acres will be 'mined' like this by 2010!
