One of my favorite Brooklyn bands of all time is Oneida. I saw them for the first time back home in San Francisco several years ago and have since taken advantage of every opportunity to see them again and again. What is it about this experimental noise/rock/jam/electronic band that I love so much, you ask? Well, for starters, their infectious music is danceable and fun -- they've been in the business for over 10 years and 7 albums, after all, so they know what to do to get your feet movin'. Second, their sound is constantly evolving and never static, a fact which makes this band incredibly exciting to watch if just to see what they'll do next. And third, well, they're all sweet and humble guys, making it a pleasure to see them garner more attention. I simply adore them!
This past Saturday I had the immense pleasure of seeing them perform with fellow noise makers Black Dice at Studio B, a brand new venue in Green Point. The venue itself was incredibly "clubby" with $7 dollar drinks and a smoke machine to boot. I spoke to Baby Jane about the venue and he said that "playing at a place like this makes me feel as though we've finally made it." (I trust that comment was part sarcasm and part disbelief). During their set, when the smoke machine went off, he said to the audience, "Hey, that's okay, who needs to breathe anyway?"
Here are some super psychedelic pics of their performance, which was awesome (as usual).
